Lernert & Sander – Everything Perfume

Lernert & Sander Everything Perfume

There’s a lot that goes into perfume development, including countless hours of work to get the scent to match its inspiration as it hits your palate. There’s also a lot that went into Dutch artists Lernert and Sander‘s “Everything Perfume” — in fact, everything went into their concoction. Donning their lab coats, the duo tracked down all 1,200 perfumes that were launched in 2012 and blended them together into a custom-made 1.6 liter vial simply entitled, Everything. Of course, this is no longer an exercise on finding a new, meaningful scent, but rather a project that gains substance just from the fact that it reflects everything all at once. You can smell it for yourself from March 1 to March 9, 2013 at Colette in Paris, with Lernert & Sander themselves attending on Saturday, March 2 from 4-6pm. If you want to learn more, you can view a behind-the-scences video of the project after the jump or browse through a listing of all 1,200 fragrances here.

Event Dates: March 1, 2013 (Friday) – March 9, 2013 (Saturday)

Casio G-Shock GW-9330A‐4JR MUDMAN Watch – Rising Red

Casio G Shock GW 9330A‐4JR MUDMAN Watch Rising RedWe brought you the story of the birth of the Casio G-Shock series of timepieces last September, which included releasing four new watches from their 30th Anniversary “Rising Red” collection. But the GW-9330A-4JR (aka the Mudman) deserves special 1-on-1 attention. Even though all members of the celebratory release include red bands and bezels, gold tinted LCD’s, other black and gold detailing, and custom casebacks, none of the watches feature as many elements that this model does. Built to protect its precision timing against 7 different elements, including electric shock, gravity, temperature, vibration, water, shock, and impact, all thanks to the fact that its internal components are sealed with urethane and are suspended within modules inside its structure, making it one of the toughest (and masculine) watches to carry the Casio name. The Mudman releases Friday, March 1, exclusively at London’s end clothing, arriving along with its own special edition packaging.

Dental Clinic in Oporto / Paulo Merlini

Architects: Paulo Merlini
Location: , Portugal
Year: 2013
Photographs: Joao Morgado – Architecture Photography

The uncommon form, narrowness, vertical amplitude of the space and the two big glass façades placed on the main and back façade defined mainly the organization of the spaces.

The reception and waiting room it’s characterized by a big white box that floats in the air playing with the vertical amplitude of the space. The interior of the box mimetizes the idea of being under a roof, giving the user a familiar sensation of comfort, and helping I’m to calm down before the treatment.  From the “roof” a series of lamps float in the air, filling the space with light. The floating box stops the excessive light and consequent heat, coming from the main facade by the end of the day, on the other hand her big mass pushes the rest of the working spaces to the back façade. This receives a great sky light, with the ideal conditions for working.

Under the stair a mirror wall creates the illusion of a broadest space solving the narrowing sensation that one could feel on entering the room.

A very thin and elegant stair guides us to a resting/waiting room on the upper floor. Where we can find a window placed at feet level, this creates a strong visual relation with the ground floor letting us have a glance at the lamps from above. From the entrance perspective the window is a very important element, because it leads the eyes of the observer into a diagonal position. This movement of the head reinforces the importance of the box ceiling, and on the other hand brakes with the enclosure of the box giving the user the real notion of the all space.

On the stomatology room the user is placed facing a vegetation curtain. The idea is to create a distraction based on the movement of the leaves  so that the patient can focus on something else than the treatment itself, hopefully diminishing any unpleasant sensation caused by it.

Pedro Almodóvar’s new movie looks really… fun?

Spain’s Pedro Almodóvar is basically the epitome of “acclaimed foreign auteur,” and when you think acclaimed foreign auteur, you think of movies like Amour, Michael Haneke’s heartbreakingly beautiful ode to old people having strokes. What you don’t normally think of is gay flight attendants doing elaborate song and dance numbers, which is what I’m So Excited seems to be. This might be the best 47-second movie trailer I’ve ever seen.

It opens March 9th in Spain, set for a US release later this year.

Little is known of plot, except that most of it takes place on a small airplane. It it looks like a throwback to his early sex comedies such as Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. It stars some Almodóvar veterans such as Javier Cámara, Penélope Cruz, and Cecilia Roth, as well as newcomers to the Almodóvar fold, such as Carlos Areces (Extraterrestrial), Raúl Arévalo (Ghost Graduation) and Antonio de la Torre (The Last Circus). [Twitch]

Featuring a huge ensemble cast, the comedy is set against a plane accident with various characters fearing for their lives and confessing their inner secrets. But obviously it’s much more lighthearted than that, in a movie that looks like it won’t be pausing for a moment to take a breath. [ThePlaylist]

Well, I certainly wouldn’t mind joining the mile high club with THOSE guys, am I right, fellas? I’m just not sure I can stuff these all these LAUGHS into my carry-on! Hey, and what’s the deal with airline food…

[FreshAir]

Tangentially related, but every time I type the accent in Almodóvar, I can’t help but think of this guy:

Bunker House / Estudio Botteri-Connell

Architects:
Location: , Buenos Aires, Argentina
Design Team: Sofía Botteri , Patricio Connell
Collaborators: Jose Mesía, Jose Chavez, Rosalía Vicente
Structural Engineering: Juan Turdo, Rosana del Pano
Project Area: 286 sqm
Project Year: 2011
Photographs: Gustavo Sosa Pinilla

“GRAVITY builds  SPACE and  LIGHT  builds TIME.  Architecture as a CONSTRUCTED IDEA” Alberto Campo Baeza.

The house has been built in a suburban neighbourhood and has been thought for someone who will live there permanently and whose children, friends and couple will visit them from time to time. From meetings with the client, many concepts arise that seek architectonical answers: “a house which can integrate social life in direct relation with the outside, having a space in it which hosts and protects intimacy. A space where one can stay while the rest of the house remains asleep. An introspection space; a temporal oasis.”

In response to these concepts, at first sight the house is built along two different elements: the Bunker that is solid, hermetic, almost impenetrable; and the open, permeable Action area  that dissolves  the limits in constant movement .

The Bunker is a singular poetic image, a primitive shelter, a home for lonely dreams and an intimate  space. Practically void of the outside, it “opens up” a larger universe, holding  the Dweller in their complete reality. The Bunker presents itself to the outside as stony, still, immemorial as a carved rock. However, there are lines that cross it through, that mold it and engrave it…GRAVITY, LIGHT, WATER and AIR outline TIME and SPACE. Its inside layout- “heartbeats of the one who lives in it”- defines a warm, soft and expandable heart… Geometry is surpassed.

The spiral staircase stops being a mere connection element between distant points to become an entrance to a cosmic and mysterious universe, an escape from ordinary life from time to time and a feeling of “ascension” drawn by the development of the axial focus… The Infinite.

The Action Plan – made up of transparent membranes, white walls and  large tiling surfaces-defines  areas embedded in a larger one which in fact are  the actual  limits of  the  plot of land. The neutral Green and its different degrees of seizure. The Water, with its leading role in everyday life, is sometimes a mirror and sometimes entertainment but always a connection between the World and ME. The Light passes gently through the concrete walls. The Gravity permanently facing challenge.

And there come Lines Again: Family Lines, Friendship Lines and Work Lines making space  constantly flow. It is a place for social life. Among them, overlooking the scene, concrete walls rise.
